New London Architecture (NLA)

​Peter co-founded New London Architecture (NLA) with Nick McKeogh in 2005 to create an independent forum for debate, collaboration and public engagement around the future of the capital. Under his leadership, NLA became one of London's most influential built environment organisations, bringing together architects, developers, planners, policymakers and communities through exhibitions, research, events and awards. Today, NLA continues to champion better city-making and provides a platform for informed discussion on the opportunities and challenges facing London.

​London Festival of Architecture (LFA)

Peter founded the London Festival of Architecture to celebrate the city's extraordinary built environment and encourage wider public participation in shaping its future. What began as a biennial festival has grown into the world's largest annual architecture festival, attracting hundreds of events across every London borough. By bringing together professionals, communities, artists and local organisations, the Festival has demonstrated how architecture and design can inspire civic pride, creativity and public conversation.

​The London Society

As Chair of The London Society, Peter rescued one of the capital's oldest and most respected independent membership organisations. Since its founding in 1912, the Society has championed debate about London's future, bringing together people from across the built environment, business, local government and wider civic life. It published the first London Plan in 1919 and promoted the idea of a Green Belt around London to stop urban sprawl. Today it continues to provide an independent voice on the issues shaping London while encouraging informed discussion, research and public engagement.

The consultancy grew into the largest specialist design and communications consultancy for commercial property. Working globally, this gave Peter a real understanding of London’s role in world markets as well as how London is perceived internationally. ​

​New Architecture, the work of Foster Rogers Stirling

Peter organised this seminal exhibition at the Royal Academy in 1986 together with Deyan Sudjic. It was visited by more people than any previous architectural exhibition ever held in the UK and had a substantial impact on the debate about style and purpose at the time.

​Living Bridges

Also at the Royal Academy, this exhibition in 1996, looked at historic inhabited bridges like Old London Bridge as well as proposing a new bridge between the South Bank and Temple on the north. The idea of a garden bridge was proposed by the French Architect Antoine Grumbach. A later proposal of a more complex and expensive design was stopped by Mayor Sadiq Kahn.
